Description

Data retrieved semi-automatically from ILO Legal Series indices.
It contains entries about labor legislations issued by the countries of the world.
Data is provided as *.xlsx and *.csv documents and contains specific informataion about:
Country, region, date, index text (text reference to the legislation as in ILo LS), and supplementary data on data collection and cleaning.
Some documents of the ILO LS indexes are **not covered** yet and thus create a data gap.
Known data gaps are indices from the following ILO LS documents, which will be added soon: 1920, 1921, 1922, 1937, 1957 (2), 1958, 1963, 1970, 1971 (French), 1972, 1973, 1975 (Spanish), 1975, 1987, 1988 (Spanish)

The data set lists 2319 entries, for Russia and/or the USSR, as well as for sub-national units.

The data uploaded to the Discuss Data project focuses explicitly on the Soviet Union. This geographic selection allows for a detailed overview of labor-related laws in the Soviet Union from 1923 to 1986. This time period covers the whole period for which data is available. Indeed, the ILO LS represent the most comprehensive collection of labor policy legislation. However, the annual issue of these series was discontinued by the ILO in 1989, and substituted by a digitized publication – the NATLEX. Subsequently, the dataset for the Soviet Union and the rest of the world in the larger project contains historical and not current legislative texts.
