Description

This dataset contains transcripts of 25 in-depth, semi-structured interviews with Ukrainians who watched “Servant of the People” TV series and voted for Volodymyr Zelensky in 2019. The goal of the interviews was to capture the process of political decision-making in the post-truth/hyperreal information environments, where the edges between reality, fiction, and mediation are blurred. That focus determined the key topics of the dataset, namely (1) “Servant of the People’s” contribution to how Ukrainians saw national politics ahead of the 2019 presidential elections; (2) sourcing political information in the conditions of a post-truth campaign; (3) navigating between different mediated images of Zelensky, e.g., Zelensky-actor, Zelensky-politician, Holoborodko. The data will be of interest to scholars of post-truth politics, new information environments, populist communication, election campaigning, Ukrainian politics, deliberative democracy, media audiences, etc.
